Soil Associate/Environmental technician
Hal Owen & Associates, Inc. has an entry-level Soil Associate or Environmental Technician position available. This is a full-time position and requires working in both an office environment and in the field. Physical ability and willingness to perform field work is necessary. Encountering dense vegetation, insects, extreme weather, and other outdoor nuisances should be expected.
Duties
- Field work 80%, office work 20%
- Perform soil evaluations to determine suitability for wastewater dispersal systems
- Design various types of septic systems
- Conduct wetland delineations
- Prepare technical reports including GIS site maps
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in soil science or a related discipline such as natural resources or geology
- A valid driver's license and transportation to/from work is required
- Ability to traverse rough terrain, thick vegetation, and extremes in weather
- Ability to work on a team and independently
- Basic knowledge of soil systems
Preferences
- Ability to determine soil morphology (soil texture, color, etc.)
- Familiarity/experience with GIS
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Ability to read and interpret topography maps
- General knowledge of septic system design
- Previous consulting experience
Compensation
Pay ranges from $25-35$/hour based on experience and qualifications with potential for future advancement. Employee will work a 30-day probationary period.
